| The Italian national currency is the lira , and at time of writing
there were around L3000 to the pound sterling, and L2000 to the US
dollar. However, Italy is one of eleven European countries that have
decided to adopt the European single currency - the euro . At the moment
you can only make paper transactions in the new currency, but you will
notice shops, restaurants and other businesses list prices in euros as
well as lira. Euro notes will be in circulation from January 1, 2002,
and are scheduled to replace the lira six months later. |
